The Great Washington State Birding Trail

Our Goals
Sharing the best places to bird across Washington state.
What We’re Doing
Working with chapters across Washington, we created seven Birding Trail maps to support bird tourism across the state.

Along the Great Washington State Birding Trail, you’ll find the best places for the best bird watching in the Evergreen State. Described in full-color maps with original artwork by Ed Newbold, birds are identified along seven routes, plus descriptions of habitat, access, and when to go.

Birding trails are most often driving trips with stops at special places where birds are most likely to be seen. Each stop describes the habitat, what birds are there in what season, where to look, and how to get from a main road to the location. Some trails include water routes where you can paddle your canoe or kayak to see birds; other trails include biking or walking routes.
