On a recent winter trip to the beach, I spotted some shore birds running into and out of the ocean with the waves. I’ve always had trouble IDing birds from this group—in my opinion, they all kind of look alike. After tenuous research staring at the pages of my birding book, I finally came to a conclusion (confirmed by a top birder). Can you ID these birds?
E-mail me with your guess (and your name and location), with "Blog bird ID" as the subject. If you're feeling inspired, tell me about your experience with shore birds. Thursday afternoon, I’ll post the answer, plus a list of those who got it right.
Later today, check back for information about the birds’ location and size. Hint: They’re in their classic pale winter plumage.
