Our cover features a striking image of the backside of a blue-and-yellow macaw, taken by Andrew Zuckerman. This "Cher bird," as a colleague calls it (can't you just see her draped in a costume reminscent of this dramatically-plumed bird?), is just one of a variety of charismatic characters appearing in Zuckerman's album Creature, which I wrote about in the same issue.
