Joe Ryan

Vice President, Climate & Strategic Initiatives

As Vice President for Climate and Strategic Initiatives, Joe Ryan will lead Audubon’s newly implemented climate initiative. Ryan and his team will work closely with the policy office and leaders in the Audubon network to address the issues related to conservation in the face of climate change. Ryan’s experience in building out large conservation plans and his extensive background working internationally will guide Audubon as it begins to extend its conservation work across the hemisphere.

Ryan comes to Audubon from ClimateWorks, where he was Vice President for Latin America and Oil Campaign Director. While there, Ryan led a consortium of international foundations to design strategies and create a regional initiative for mitigating carbon emissions in Mexico and Brazil, and he managed a grant portfolio of $15 million per year to support strategic improvements in clean transportation across the US, Europe, China, India, Mexico and Brazil. Prior to this, Ryan served as environmental program officer at the Hewlett Foundation for 11 years. Ryan is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and knows enough Mandarin to get into trouble.
