Audubon Events Marking Earth Day 2024

State offices and chapters across the Audubon network are marking Earth Day on and around April 22.

Audubon is holding events at the national, state, and local levels marking Earth Day on and around April 22 to celebrate birds and wildlife. Here are some highlights from across the U.S.: 

Fairbanks, AK
Spring Migration Celebration—April 27, 2024 (12 p.m.)
The migrating birds and awakening wildlife will be celebrating the coming of spring at the Spring Migration Celebration! Come celebrate with the Arctic Audubon Society, the Friends of Creamer’s Field, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and more local outdoor organizations at Creamer’s Field! This event is FREE to the public and will bring fun for all ages! Activities include meeting local outdoor organizations, a nature walk, treats, wildlife viewing, and crafts for kids and families. Los Angeles, CA 
Dia de la Tierra at Rio de Los Angeles State Park—April 21, 2024 (9 a.m. – 1 p.m. PT)  
Join Audubon Center at Debs Park staff and partners and support ongoing habitat restoration work at Rio de Los Angeles State Park. Volunteers will plant native milkweed, remove invasive weeds, mulch, and water to enhance bird-focused restoration efforts at the park. 

San Diego, CA
Earth Justice Summit hosted by the Birdlife Club at San Diego City College—April 18, 2024 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. PT)
Join the San Diego Audubon Society and San Diego City College Birdlife Club for the fifth annual Environmental Justice Summit on campus at San Diego City College (SDCC). This free event will feature speakers covering a variety of environmental issues and ideas. San Diego City College Birdlife Club is part of Audubon on Campus, a program for college students interested in conservation work. 

Greenwich, CT
Earth Educators at Greenwich Audubon Center—April 13, 2024 (1 p.m. – 4 p.m. ET)
Join Greenwich Audubon volunteers for a family day to learn all about our changing climate. During our service days, teens have been planning different activity stations for this event to teach community members and families about how climate change impacts our local community ecosystems as well as birds, both permanent residents and migrating.

Pagosa Springs, CO
Earth Day Celebration at the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership–April 21, 2024, (9 a.m.–3 p.m. MT)
Join Audubon Rockies and Weminuche Audubon Society to celebrate Earth Day at the Native Plants Garden in downtown Pagosa Springs. Events will include presentations on municipal composting; recycling plastics; garden to table growing; Earth Day past, present, and future; a San Juan Riverwalk naturalist tour; and a special visit from the furry friends at Wolfwood Refuge. There will also be live music, a tea ceremony, food vendors, and a catered finger food tasting. Kids for activities include solar car races, chalk art, native seed ball making and a costume parade.

Earth Day Birdathon Events at the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey—April 20 and 21, 2024  
Participate in the Earth Day Puzzle Trail as part of Audubon Florida's Birdathon event. In this escape-room experience, participants solve puzzles and clues focused on raptor conservation and qualify to win fun prizes, including a meet-and-greet with a raptor ambassador. 

Middletown, CA
RCD Earth Day Field Day — April 22, 2024 (9 a.m.)

Celebrate Earth Day at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary—April 22, 2024 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. ET) 
Visit Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary for an Earth Day celebration with a bird walk, climate change solutions presentation, film screening, ukulele performances, a Happiness Workshop (separate registration required) and more. Discounted admission for all: $8 for adults, $4 for children, and free for members.

Earth Day at Lawton Environmental Study Area—April 22, 2024 (9 a.m.)

Earth Day Microforest Planting Day Celebration—April 20, 2024 (8 a.m.)
Come join Manatee Counrt Audubon Society at Felts Audubon Preserve to help us plant our microforest. All you need to do is put the plants in the ground. Holes will be dug and the plants will be waiting for you. Come and do what you can to plant a forest and watch it grow! Every forest provides a haven for wildlife and a healthful site for walking, sitting and meditating. Microforests are the region’s most powerful tool against climate change. Respect Your Mother Earth Day — April 20, 2024 (10 a.m.)
Tampa Audubon Society will participate in the "Respect Your Mother" Earth Day event. The day will be filled with family-friendly activities, a dunk tank, live animals, guided hikes, guided kayak trips, yard games, food, a "Speak for the Trees" kid zone, raffles, music and much more. This dog-friendly event is taking place by parking lot 4. Be sure to bring your cash for dynamic fundraisers including a dunk tank, and all the funds raised will stay in the park. Georgia Bird Fest Summit—April 20, 2024 (8:30 a.m.)
Birds Georgia will host our inaugural Georgia Bird Fest Summit from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Classic Center. The Georgia Bird Fest Summit is designed to bring people from the state-wide birding community together to share knowledge and inspiration about what organizations are doing in Georgia's conservation, education, and community engagement programming. Earth Day At Adler —April 27, 2024 (2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
Join us for a day of education and action in celebration of Earth Day! The annual Earth Day event at the Adler Arts Center is a free, family friendly event where you can focus on environmental awareness and education, help us with litter cleanup, create recycled art using plastic bottles, and more! College Park, MD 
Native Garden Rejuvenation organized by the Audubon Student Chapter at the University of Maryland—April 22, 2024 (3 p.m. – 5 p.m. ET)
Join the Audubon Student Chapter at the University of Maryland in preparing and planting a vibrant native wildflower garden on campus. With donations from Garden for Wildlife and in collaboration with the UMD Community Learning Garden, 17 for Peace and Justice, and the UMD Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, the project aims to enhance local bird biodiversity through the cultivation of native plants. The chapter is part of Audubon on Campus, a program for college students interested in conservation work.

Earth Day Celebration at Little Creek Nature Area—April 20, 2024 (8 a.m. – Noon CT) 
Join Audubon Center at Riverlands staff for the yearly Earth Day event at Ferguson-Florissant School District’s Little Creek Nature Area. This event will feature various outdoor activities including barnyard animals, puppet shows, crafts, live music, birds of prey, nature walks and much more. You can find Audubon down at the pond for some pond exploration!

Join NYC Audubon and the Carl Schurz Park Conservancy for an Earth Day celebration with fun and educational activities, and of appreciating this beautiful planet.  

Oyster Bay, NY 
Service Day at Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center—April 21, 2024 (9 a.m. – 4 p.m. ET) 
Take part in a day of volunteer conservation action with a variety of activities, including a bird watch and garden and plant ID walk. 

Syracuse, NY
Earth Day Cleanup with Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps—April 20, 2024 (10 a.m. – Noon ET)
Join the Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps for the 5th Annual Earth Day Cleanup Event. Participants will pick up debris along the Onondaga Lake shoreline at Harbor Brook and about birds, other wildlife, and the importance of healthy habitats in the Onondaga Lake watershed. The Corps was founded in 2012 by Honeywell in partnership with Montezuma Audubon Center and Onondaga Audubon and is now an Audubon New York program.

Savannah, NY
MARSH! Honeysuckle Popping at Montezuma Audubon Center—April 20, 2024 (9 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET)
Volunteer with Montezuma Audubon Center and DEC staff to restore bird habitat by removing invasive bush honeysuckle in the forest habitat. Lunch will be provided by the Friends of Montezuma.

Berea, OH
Sustainable Berea Earth Day Event—April 20, 2024 (8:30 a.m.) 
The Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society is celebrating Earth Day with Sustainable Berea! An hour long bird walk in the morning begins at 8:30 a.m. The Western Cuyahoga Audubon display will be in the Coe Lake Pavilion and will feature information on creating bird-friendly yards with native plants, a bird matching game for families, and the chance to plant native plant seeds to take home. Wildlife stickers will be handed out to all participants, and information about the chapter will be available as well. (Coe Lake Park, 85 South Rocky River Drive, Berea, Ohio)

Parma Heights Earth Day in the Commons — April 27, 2024 (1 p.m. - 4 p.m. ET)
Western Cuyahoga Audubon will be providing information on how to make yards more bird-friendly, which will also help pollinators. Family activities include a bird matching game, planting native seeds in a pot to take home and plant, learning about pollinator and bird-friendly yards. (6200 Pearl Road, Cleveland)

Kids as Planet Protectors at Grange Insurance Audubon Center—April 20, 2024 (10 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET)
Families and groups are invited to participate in a FREE Earth Day celebration with multiple projects to help kids ages 2-12 take action in protecting our environment and investing in our planet’s future. Amazon Web Services is the Presenting Sponsor, and community partners will be on site to educate kids on environmental stewardship actions. 

Rocky River, OH
Earth Fest 2024 — May 11, 2024 (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

Earth Day Over the Bridge—April 22, 2024 (6 p.m.)
Fifty-four years ago, Earth Day was initiated as a national expression of appreciation for our planet. Join the Lycoming Audubon Society on the River Walk gathering on the north/Wegman’s side, near the river dam. Ample parking available. Look for Audubon signs. With signs and flags, we’ll walk clockwise, cross Market Street bridge, walk west a short way, stop and chat, then turn around and come back across the bridge. You may want to continue walking, or head home. (Susquehanna River Walk)
