Environmental Protection Fund Celebrates 20 Years of Success

The following is a statement from Erin Crotty, Executive Director of Audubon New York, the 50,000 member state program of the National Audubon Society, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF).

“Over the past twenty years through  economic challenges and opportunities,  the EPF has proven to be a stable source of critical funding supporting essential programs that have simultaneously protected New York’s land, air and water, and enhanced the State’s economy through ecotourism, job creation, and improved public health.  Through improvements to Long Island Sound, the Great Lakes and the Hudson River, preserving our open spaces, protecting working farms, enhancing parks, promoting urban and community forestry, and supporting recycling, the EPF has truly made a world of difference for the state’s natural resources, our local economies and our quality of life.”

“The investments made in the EPF have made New York a national leader in environmental protection. We applaud the long-standing bipartisan support for the EPF, the leadership of former Governors Mario Cuomo and George Pataki, the legislature, and the unwavering commitment, vision and leadership of Governor Andrew Cuomo.  Over two billion dollars have been infused into the State’s environment and we look forward to working with the Governor Cuomo, the Legislature, and the Friends of New York’s Environment Coalition to ensure the EPF investments continue to put people to work improving our environment.”
