From American Robins to Yellow Warblers, Audubon Members Share Favorite Birds

Did your favorite make the top 12?

Earlier this year, we asked some of our most loyal supporters (who had also opted in to participate in a donor insight survey) to share their favorite story or experience involving birds in the summertime. Over 115 members shared with us a personal story or something they saw or heard.

We compiled the species mentioned in these stories and found that our donors love to talk about the following birds. Did your favorite make the top 12?

  • Hummingbird
  • American Goldfinch
  • American Robin
  • Blue Jay
  • Pileated Woodpecker
  • Northern Cardinal
  • Gull
  • Osprey
  • Bluebird
  • Chickadee
  • Downy Woodpecker
  • Red-tailed Hawk

The birds above were calculated based on how frequently the species was mentioned in all the stories shared with Audubon HQ. Below is a graphic that puts together all of the individual words in the 117 bird species mentioned. Our survey respondents love all different types of hawks, herons and woodpeckers. Do you? Share your favorite bird species in the comments below.
