Australia’s superb lyrebird is a remarkable mimic. The pheasant-sized songbirds are known to imitate the calls of some two-dozen birds species. But as this video shows, the creatures are also adept at repeating anthropogenic sounds. In all, about 80% of a lyrebird’s repertoire is made up of mimicked noises. Kind of makes you think it should have been called the liarbird.
