The arrival of June marks Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, usually just shortened to Pride Month. Celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, and, in the case of Audubon, bird walks. Our Let's Go Birding Together series was founded and organized by Jason St. Sauver, Community Education director at Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center in Denton, Nebraska. Other Audubon sites across the country have joined Jason in creating inclusive birding events.
Let's Go Birding Together walks are for everyone who loves birds and the outdoors. We welcome those who identify as LGBTQ, allies, families, and anyone who wants to enjoy an outdoor experience that is inclusive. Why do we do this? Because the outdoors has not always been a welcoming place for LGBTQ people and Audubon wants help change that.

In June of 2022, Audubon partnered with drag queen and intersectional environmentalist Pattie Gonia on a series of videos, including a feature on Let’s Go Birding Together. Watch below for an in-depth look at the history of the program with its creator, Jason “The Birdnerd” St. Sauver, and candid conversations with Pattie Gonia on the importance of inclusivity in the outdoors.
