As an Indigenous woman, biologist and environmental educator, I am honored to serve as the Youth Programs Manager at Seward Park Audubon Center. My inspiration for this work is woven into my heritage; in my culture, birds are sacred messengers, carrying the wisdom and protection of our ancestors. Audubon’s mission to protect birds and the places they need is one I fully embody.

I see birds as the ultimate unifiers, their epic migrations crossing all borders, a journey that mirrors my own. My work is to help our youth hear the messages these winged messengers carry. In my programs, we move beyond simple stewardship to explore a deeper kinship. Together, we learn the Indigenous concepts of right relations and reciprocity, helping young people understand that by creating the conditions for birds to thrive, we create the conditions for all life, including our own, to flourish.

My journey is to ensure the wisdom of the birds resonates across cultures, building a community where every young person feels they belong to this world and are empowered to protect it.
