Ryan studied biology at College of Charleston and graduated with a BA in Biology in 2024. and worked on SCDNR research vessels the Palmetto and the Lady Lisa for the MARMAP program in 2022, which cemented his enjoyment of field biology. He's been doing nature photography for years and is an active member on iNaturalist. Ryan is very interested in habitat restoration and native plants, specifically orchids, carnivorous plants, spring ephemerals, and pocosin plant communities. He hopes to be able to offer classes on native plants and native plant gardening, work on outreach and citizen science programs, and establish an educational herbarium here at Beidler Forest.
