Four candidates are on the campaign trail to become the 2026 Audubon Washington Bird of the Year. The Swainson's Thrush, American Barn Owl, Common Nighthawk, and Leach's Storm-Petrel each want your vote to represent Audubon Washington in the coming year. The 2026 bird of the year will act as a "spokesbird" for Audubon's work in Washington, raising awareness for conservation.
Voting is now open until December 31st. You must enter your email address in order to vote and email addresses will be added the Audubon Washington email list so we can provide you with updates on the election.

You may have heard my enchanting, flute-like song that drifts through Washington’s forests in summer. I'm an experienced orator and hemispheric traveler, able to communicate about hemispheric conservation.

Leach's Storm-Petrel
You may have never seen me because I spend nearly my entire life at sea, returning to Washington’s coastlines to nest. I am an indicator of the health of our marine ecosystems and a vote for me is a vote for Washington’s wild coastlines.
