Celebrate America Recycles Day by helping remove invasive plants at Deadstick Pond on Sunday, November 15, from 9am-12pm CT. All ages and experience levels are welcome at this free, family-friendly volunteer event, which will take place outdoors.
Go behind the scenes at Deadstick Pond, a conservation site currently closed to the public, where Audubon and the Chicago Park District are working with partners to restore 55 acres of wetland habitat for birds that need them.
Invasive species spread quickly and take over wetland habitats, making it difficult for other plants to survive as they compete for nutrients and sunlight. By removing invasive plants, you’re helping to create habitat that birds need.
The event will include removing invasive plants by hand and may incorporate the use of tools (including pruners and loppers). The event is family-friendly and open to all ages. Training, tools, gloves, snacks and additional supplies will be provided to volunteers. Please wear sturdy, comfortable shoes, long pants, and a long shirt, and bring your own water.
