Bat Activity Trends (BAT) Community Science Bat Counts
7:30pm - 8:00pm UTC
Seattle, Washington
Location Details
5902 Lake Washington Blvd S, Seattle, 98118
Join Seward Park Audubon Center and trained volunteer leaders for a series of evening bat counts as part of the Bat Activity Trends (BAT) Program, a community science initiative led by Woodland Park Zoo and Bats Northwest. The program helps scientists and community members better understand where and when bats are active throughout Washington and the Pacific Northwest. Participants observe bats at sunset and contribute data that supports regional bat conservation efforts.
During each bat count, participants will gather before sunset for a brief introduction to local bat species, learn how to identify bat activity in the evening sky, and take part in a guided observation session led by trained volunteers. No prior experience is necessary, and participants of all ages are welcome. We recommend bringing weather-appropriate clothing, comfortable walking shoes, water, and a flashlight or headlamp for use after dark. By participating, you'll contribute valuable community science data that helps researchers monitor bat populations while learning about the important role bats play in healthy ecosystems through natural insect control and biodiversity conservation.
Come spend an evening outdoors, connect with your community, and help advance bat conservation in our region. 🦇
