Charlotte Young

General Counsel

Charlotte Young serves as Audubon’s General Counsel. In this role Charlotte works with the Audubon legal staff to predict and address the organization’s legal needs. She also supports Board governance and risk management. 

Prior to joining Audubon in May of this year, Charlotte served as General Counsel at Winrock International, a nonprofit with a mission to empower the disadvantaged, increase economic opportunity and sustain natural resources. Prior to that, she held several leadership roles with The Nature Conservancy, including Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, Privacy Officer, and Youth Safety Officer. Additionally, Charlotte has been an active member of several nonprofit boards, including Freshfarm Markets, Planned Parenthood of DC, and New Endeavors by Women. She graduated from The University of Virginia and The George Washington School of Law and was honored as the 2020 Nonprofit Compliance Officer of the Year by C3 Women in Compliance Awards. With more than 35 years of experience as a practicing attorney, she brings a wealth of expertise in risk assessment, nonprofit governance, compliance, investigation, and management.
