Conservation in the Delta

Learn about our efforts to protect birds in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Audubon Delta advances conservation solutions that protect birds and the habitats they depend on across Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Our work focuses on restoring and conserving wetlands, forests, rivers, and coastal ecosystems while supporting science-based strategies that strengthen resilience for both wildlife and communities. Through collaboration, research, and on-the-ground action, we turn conservation priorities into lasting impact across the Mississippi Flyway.

Audubon Delta works to conserve and restore the vital landscapes around the mighty Mississippi River and Delta. We restore wetlands, monitor bird populations, and work with partners to maintain safe stopover and breeding habitats to safeguard the Mississippi Flyway as a vital migration corridor for the millions of birds that depend on it.

Restoring the Mississippi River Delta in particular takes large-scale projects that can repair or imitate the river’s natural processes. This involves reintroducing fresh water and sediment to the coastal system while preparing for future conditions of the delta ecosystem. Through principled management of site-specific projects, we can rebuild the delta in a sustainable way for both communities and ecosystems.
