Wilmington, NC Beach Bird Steward Training and Orientation
Wednesday, April 8, 2026 4:30pm - 6:30pm UTC Wilmington, North Carolina
Location Details
3802 College Rd, Wilmington, 28412
Join Audubon North Carolina for this special Beach Bird Steward orientation and training. You'll learn what it means to be a steward and how we educate beachgoers about beach-nesting birds at Audubon's sanctuary at the south end of Wrightsville Beach.
Beach Bird Stewards have the benefit of watching the activity in the nesting colony and showing visitors newborn chicks. We explain how even brief disturbances may cause parent birds to flush, exposing eggs and young to heat stress and predators. Our stewards take this responsibility seriously, while also having fun fostering an appreciation for birds among local residents and visitors.
Attendees will also hear from Audubon's Coastal Biologist on last year's nesting season. Note that the library allows covered beverages only and restaurants are in walking distance following the training.
Returning stewards, please wear your blue shirts! We will have more shirts, sweatshirts, and photo books available for purchase.
