Also known as Florida Privet, Southern Privet, and Wild Olive, this perennial, semi-deciduous, and multi-stemmed shrub typically grows 8 to 15 feet tall and wide in full to partial sun and moist soil. It bears small, yellow-green, insect-pollinated flowers and dark purple or black fruit in fall and winter on female plants. If this species grows wild in your area, you most likely will not need to purchase a male plant to pollinate your female plant; ask your native plant retailer for more information.
